Experimental Rec-age
[mission statement]

Title: Rumour Notes:
This is the trickyfish fic that made me a trickyfish fan for life. I still remember finding it, like a trickyfish needle in the haystack of bassez and juc. I love it. Any story where Chris comes up with an ultimately flawed scheme, and Lance goes along with it is fine by me. Calico's skill with dialogue and sexiness is always a treat to read. I really love Lance in this.

Title: Ever After Notes:
This would be the other story that turned me onto choey. It's a work-in-progress, still unfinished, but ... I can't not rec it. It's, like, yes. Hurt/comfort at its best; choey at its best; first-person pov at its best. This is the type of story where I don't mind waiting a year for an update. A single chapter is worth its weight in gold -- long, full of great characterisation and all five guys struggling to live life.

Title: The Best Man Notes:
I remember seeing the title for this story way back when and deciding not to read it until I'd exhausted all of Dayse's other stories ... because I thought it was going to be about a wedding. Oh, how wrong I was. This is one of those delayed-gratification fics that makes me ... yes. Plus, Chris and Joey making bets about who'll give in first to the Sex is an easy way of amusing me and endearing me to a story forever. They so would, you know? It's an oldie but a goodie. It was one of two fics that turned me onto choey ... no pun intended.

Title: Favor Notes:
I have this weakness for Germany-era fics, which I've already mentioned, and this one just ... no words, man. It's insanely sexy, for one, but more than that, Synchronik's love for JoLa comes through loud and clear, and I love me some JoLa. There is not enough JoLa in the world! I also really love this Joey. His voice is spot-on, and he's just so fantastically easy-going, and he loves his Lance, man.

Title: Faster, Further Notes:
It's hard to describe this story because Lily takes a concept that could easily become cliche, and makes it completely her own. More than that, though, she twists it into this story that inspired me. All the guys are great and real and just wonderful, existing within this plot and reacting like I'd imagine they would. I also love the theme of "the five of us against the world" a lot, too. Solidarity, yo.

Title: Daylight Dissolving Notes:
Oh, but I love a good road trip story, and this is a great road trip story and it's timbertrick. The Justin in this is just fantastic. The weirder, the better, that's how I see Justin, and K is the master at capturing that for me, as a reader. Plus, fabulous Chris, with self-esteem issues and all that great stuff. Did I mention the road tripping? A nice long story full of wonderful details, and two guys who truly love and adore each other.

Title: Parodic Notes:
I have this ... thing, for an insanely happy Chris. and in this story, Weird Al makes Chris insanely happy. (Though rest assured, there is no Chris/Weird Al side pairing, because ... no). Lovely Poet also knows her stuff, so it's full of details, and man, I just smile through the whole of this story. It doesn't hurt that this story is trickyfish, and I love trickyfish. Man, give me Chris, Lance, a box full of old tapes and a much beloved tapeplayer, and I'm happy.

Title: Textbook Case Notes:
It's so tacky to rec a story that someone wrote you for your birthday, after shamelessly begging for a choey boarding school au. Nobody writes choey boarding school aus, man. But I'm reccing, oh yes, I am, because I love it. I love Chris as the scruffy scholarship kid with second-hand loafers. I love Joey as the sexually-confused guy who finds comfort in Chris. And it's a boarding school au! And Arsenic wrote me a sequel. Did I mention I love Chris and Joey?

Title: Deerfield Academy Notes:
Remember that Saturday Night Live episode, and Nsync was the musical guest, and they did two skits? Right. This is a delightful almost-au, really closer to FPS, about the guys in Deerfield Academy. Anthony (played by Joey Fatone) is delightfully flamey, and Banks (played by Chris Kirkpatrick) is delightfully sullen. It's pseudo-choey, man. I loved this series so much that it boggles the mind. It's also fun to see how Kittie's managed to work in little bits of the Nsync we know and love.

Pairing: ... Anthony/Banks

Title: Something to Say Notes:
This is my absolute favourite trickyfish ever, ever in the world. I've printed out one story in this fandom, and it's this one. Lance is loveable and quirky, and such a teenage boy. And it's no wonder that he falls for Chris. Chris is just undeniably attractive in this. Plus, man, it's Germany era, and I love Germany era fics. It's peppered with all these scenes that I can't forget, including a scene in which Lance wears tighty-whities and. Um, it's more important than it sounds. I just really love the guys in underpants.

Title: Anarchitect Notes:
This is one of those stores where I sit back and wistfully think, "wow, I'll never write again." The Chris/Lance vibe is gorgeous and fun and witty, and I will never, ever forget the image of Chris, gazing at the beautiful sleeping Lance, hugging himself in delight because he gets to shock Lance into wakefulness. That's love, man. I also have a fond spot for do-gooder Chris, who just wants to help out his buddies.

Title: Wolves and Boybands Mate For Life Notes:
I love a story that makes me laugh and love the guys more than I did before. When Merry wrotes this story, it was a breath of fresh air into my fandom life. Poor Chris and JC, so oblivious, and poor Lance, who is totally not. Any story where Chris and JC woo each other weirdly secures a place in my heart. Lance, Joey and Justin are all absolutely fantastic in this story, loveable and so them. Merry gives great Nsync, man. Love those boys, love this story, love Merry.
